Cindy is a fourth-year PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering and a Presenting & Writing tutor at ELSO. With more than three years of experience working with students, she offers individualized, supportive feedback to help writers clarify their ideas, communicate with confidence, and move toward their academic and career goals.
Cindy has expertise in scientific writing, including research papers, grant proposals, and dissertations, as well as poster and oral presentations. She also enjoys helping students develop graduate school personal statements and statements of purpose, along with job-application materials such as cover letters and resumes. In her sessions, she can help students organize complex ideas, adapt their work for specialized or broader audiences, and develop practical revision strategies. While her academic background is in STEM, she welcomes students from all disciplines.
Born in Taiwan, Cindy moved to the Bay Area at age five and later studied abroad in Portugal. She speaks English and Mandarin Chinese. She earned a B.S. in Bioengineering from UC Berkeley, and her work has been published in the ACM CHI proceedings and presented at ISMRM. Her dissertation research studies lung development and pulmonary fibrosis using hESC-derived lung organoids.
