Spotlight on ELSO Tutors: Annabelle di Lustro

Annabelle di Lustro is a fourth-year PhD candidate in Linguistics and a Writing and Presenting tutor for ELSO. Annabelle attended NC State University for her undergraduate studies, where she majored in Linguistics as well as Japanese Language and Literature. With her previous experience studying literature paired with her current work in Linguistics, Annabelle feels most comfortable working with writing in the humanities and the social sciences. Annabelle enjoys working on research articles, conference submissions, and slide decks and handouts for presentations.

As a researcher, Annabelle specializes in the study of speech sounds (phonetics). Her research focuses on the investigation of individual voices and how listeners recognize them during speech. She spends a lot of her time thinking about voices in spoken language, but Annabelle also enjoys helping students find their voice while writing! When not tutoring or conducting her research, Annabelle enjoys rock climbing with friends and cooking while her cat/sous chef, Corny, supervises.
