Aisulu is a new ELSO pronunciation tutor and has been part of ELSO for more than a year as a student. She has taken Writing with AI, Taking Part in Discussions, Delivering Presentations, Pronunciation, and Job Search classes. She has also been on the other side of tutoring as a student receiving pronunciation support, so she has a deep understanding of how students may feel when they come to tutoring and what they may want to improve.
Aisulu speaks Kazakh, Russian, and English and navigates different accents in three languages. She used to feel self-conscious about having an accent, but over time she realized that everyone has an accent when they speak. For her, the goal is not to eliminate an accent, but to communicate clearly, confidently, and in a way that others can easily understand.
Aisulu enjoys sharing her experiences while also learning from others. Every student has their own voice, background, and perspective, so helping someone express their ideas more clearly and confidently is very meaningful to her. She especially enjoys working with resources that are free and available to everyone but are sometimes difficult to discover. Tools for Clear Speech is an incredible pronunciation resource that she only learned about after becoming an ELSO tutor, and now she can share it with others.
She loves books and traveling and can talk about both for hours! She also enjoys learning about different cultures and hearing about other people’s experiences.
